The Letter to the Hebrews – An Introduction

The author of this letter is unknown. There are many various speculations, however, God in His ultimate wisdom has decided to not reveal this truth so we will therefore, not enter such unnecessary discussions.

This letter helps point people, who are thinking of turning away from Christ, back to the walk of faith. The author is reminding us that the reward of Christ Jesus is more than enough. The theme throughout the letter is to discuss, remind and strengthen the knowledge of who Jesus is and that He and Him only is sufficient. Through this reminding and rebuilding of the simple faith the author then builds onto the “meatier” side of the walk with God, enduring suffering. The suffering associated with faith in Jesus is often brushed under the carpet in modern Christianity, however, to the author of the Hebrews, suffering, discipline and chastisement is central to being a child of God. Therefore, this letter is extremely edifying for a period in time when you are faced with discipline, tough decisions in regards to your faith and being able to stand your ground when it comes to Jesus.

As we work our way through this letter, be open to receive and be ready to grow from drinking spiritual milk to eating a filling and developed spiritual meal.
