Why does your walk with God become flat? A lack of His Presence, a lack of His Spirit moving? The reason many walks stagnate is simple: we stop seeking.

You become comfortable thinking you’ve achieved it. You’re there, you’ve found the way, you’ve found the church. Then one day you wake up and there’s no Presence, no power. Back to merely walking in the ways of the flesh.

“On my bed at night I sought the one I love; I sought him, but did not find him. I will arise now and go about the city, through the streets and squares. I will seek the one I love. So I sought him but did not find him.”

Song of Solomon 3:1–2  (BSB)

“I encountered the watchmen on their rounds of the city: ‘Have you seen the one I love?’ I had just passed them when I found the one I love. I held him and would not let go.”

Song of Solomon 3:3–4  (BSB)

It is imperative that we press into the discomfort of seeking Him. Today, everything is convenience. Phones, internet, access like never before. The flesh has grown lazy. No need to go out and look for Him. No need to travel to gather with the saints.

But the walk costs something. Waking early to seek Him, sacrificing sleep. Time on your knees in humility. Travelling to where His true presence is. Sacrificing comfort to serve Him. These should be the norms of a Christian life. Today, they’ve become the roadblocks.

So today, embrace the discomfort of getting out and seeking Him. Wake up early. Travel further to attend a gathering where you know the Lord is present. Leave a fellowship you know the Lord is not in, even if it means isolation for a season. Cancel the noise you fill your evenings with and commit to reading the Bible from beginning to end at least once a year. Put down what distracts you and pick up worship instead. Stop the pointless and begin serving the homeless and broken in society.

Get out of the empty bed, and decide that from now on, you will seek the Beloved, no matter the cost.
