“Because God wanted to show his unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.” Hebrews‬ ‭6:17-18

The author of this letter is building us up onto the more advanced aspects of God and he is reminding us that God is unchangeable and He can not lie. There is a belief that is embedded into most Christians that the God of the Old Testament is all wrath and anger and then God changed in the New Testament and is now all love and forgiveness…. Sadly it is utter nonsense. God is unchangeable and He can not lie, it says so right here. The authors of the New Testament believed in the perfect unchangeable nature of God and therefore, so must we.

As you read the latter part of the quote, you realise that we are to be encouraged and we actually find our refuge, our protection and our safety in the fact that God is unchangeable and He does not lie. I have a challenge for you today, are you able to find your refuge in the Old Testament? Are you able to build your relationship with  God in the Old Testament? If not, you must! God does not change and that fact is why we are secure and we have hope! I encourage you, to get to know God for His eternal unchanging ways. Make a commitment to get to know Him for who He is and NOT for who you want Him to be.
