“Now we desire each of you to demonstrate the same diligence for the full assurance of your hope until the end, so that you won’t become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6:11-12‬ ‭CSB‬‬

There is an essential part of the walk with Christ, perseverance. It is not an easy walk Jesus describes it as a narrow hard path that few will find (Matthew 7:13-14). One of the biggest mistakes people can make is to be complacent or lazy as the author writes, why? Because you fall at the risk of the warning Jesus gave in Luke 13:26-28. You may use His name, but it does not mean that He knows you or that you will be with Him in eternity…. So much for your once saved always-saved theology!

As we spoke about yesterday, behaving in love with our fellow saints is essential. It is our love that will demonstrate the love of God to the world (John 13:34-35). As this love extends, the next step we must also imitate those who are demonstrating faith and the works of God. As we look to copy the saints of past and present it helps to prevent us from becoming lazy and idol. We must look to those whose faith inspires and challenges us and we should love them and imitate them in their walk with Christ. As we learn from those who are currently walking out the way of Jesus (Matthew 5-8) it will help ensure that we never become lazy. If you believe you are the “best” and you know what you are doing with God, then I beg of you to drop your ego, take note of the scripture and look to those who have faith and imitate them.

The walk with God is one of loving each other as family and imitating those whose faith challenges us so that we are all growing deep roots, together (Mark 4:15-17).
