“After He was perfected, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, and He was declared by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5:9-10‬ ‭CSB‬‬

It was through the suffering that He endured on the cross that Jesus was perfected before God. The final act of obedience to God’s will is when Jesus was declared the Lamb of God that is able to take away the sins of the world. This is why Jesus and only Jesus is able to offer eternal salvation to mankind. Nobody else walked a perfect life without sin or fault. Nobody else laid down their perfectly lived lives and died a death they did not deserve, a horrific and painful death; crucifixion! Because of this He became our Saviour and He is before the throne room of God for eternity as our high priest interceding before us.

Now take note, in order to gain the eternal salvation mentioned, the key point is “for all who obey him”.

In order to be able to spend eternity with Him you must be obedient to Him. How do I be obedient to Jesus, I hear you thinking? It is quite simple, start with what He teaches in His Word. In today’s world, it is all too common for people to run around declaring to be led by the Spirit of God without falling into the basic obedience or ways of living that the Word teaches us, so I question what spirit are they following…

My word for you today, stop and reflect. Are you being obedient to what Jesus teaches? Start with Matthew 5-8. If you are not yet doing the basics of what Jesus teaches us to do (help the poor, sick, orphans and widows. Give away your possessions, lay down your life for God’s kingdom etc), start with basic obedience before trying to run into the advanced walk. At the end of the day, Jesus Himself did not go straight to crucifixion and exaltation. No, He first had to be a man for 30 years, then for 3 years He walked in the power of God healing the sick and broken and then He was sacrificed. It was a journey of growth.

Today declare you will grow with God, then look to fulfil the basic commands that He teaches you in His Word.
