Galatians: An Introduction

The book of Galatians is actually a letter, written from the apostle Paul, to the church in Galatia. The letter was written approximately 48 AD & it had a specific purpose.

Paul had previously visited the cities of Lystra, Iconium & Antioch which comprised the church in Galatia. Yet, in spite of teaching them directly the revelations he had received regarding Christ, the church of Galatia had been led astray. Paul was writing to them to spur them on in their faith and re-ground them in the teachings he had previously imparted.

Paul set out to warn the congregation against the false doctrine that was circulating and endeavoured to recenter their eyes on Jesus. Paul’s ultimate message can be summarised as this: God made the promise of salvation by faith & God fulfilled the promise of salvation. It is all from God & by God, with absolutely nothing we in our humanity can contribute.
