“Therefore, let us leave the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, faith in God, teaching about ritual washings, laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.” Hebrews 6:1-2
As we build on from yesterday; let us establish a basic human desire – as children we all wish to grow up faster and sooner. Therefore, it is natural for us to hunger to grow into spiritual maturity and “adulthood” with God. The author has helped clearly establish some stepping stones for our walks to help us gauge where we are and where we should therefore focus on trying to understand.
The first step is repentance from dead works; do you still believe you have to do things to please God? The foundation is that there is nothing you can do to ensure your salvation. It is very common for people to still go around doing things in an attempt to get God’s favour or to make God move. Sadly this is still dead works and something you must grow out of. The only thing we need to do is get to know the One who set us free – Jesus.
The second step is having faith in God. Have faith in what God foretold us about Jesus being true and that Jesus is enough. Even though we did not see Him in the physical flesh, we stand in faith that what was pre-written by the prophets is true and it all points towards Jesus and His salvation.
Once you have mastered these basic steps, you can now start learning more adult topics such as baptism, laying of hands, resurrection, and finally the eternal judgment which we will all face.
