“In the same way, Christ did not exalt himself to become a high priest, but God who said to him, You are my Son; today I have become your Father, also says in another place, You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5:5-6 CSB
In today’s world, people like to say who they are and what they do. It is an era of self-appointment in spite of scientific or logical data. The sad reality is, that in today’s world people proclaim who they are in spite of who God clearly says they are. This same mentality has encroached into the churches.
How many people walk around claiming titles of appointment without the Biblical marks of God appointing that title? The sad reality is, within the Pentecostal and Charismatic Church movements people are more concerned with becoming anointed by their local church as a pastor/evangelist/prophet/apostle/deliverance/healing ministers (to name but a few) that we forget about what it is all about, being a good and faithful servant. Being a faithful bride to Christ. So when we stop on today’s scripture we see that Jesus did not even exalt Himself…. He waited until God appointed Him, even though He already knew!!
That is right, the heart of someone who truly is for God walks in humility and submission waiting for God to move in them and to say who they are. Jesus was more focused on being obedient to the Father than walking into His “ministry”. Today as a Christian are you focused on what God says to you, or are you more focused on chasing the title?
